Jay Maisel

Jay Maisel is a modern day photographer who tends to focus on capturing the light, colors, and gestures of every day life. He used to do some commercial work, but now he tends to only shoot for his personal work. He lectures at photography workshops throughout the nation.

New York City Aerial

This photo above comes from such an interesting and unique angle. It makes me feel like he was up in a helicopter or something. Usually a city scape is taken from down low looking up at the high buildings, but it's unique because it doesn't make the buildings seem so huge.

I think it's interesting the way the light hits the metal spoon because it shows the little nicks and dents in it. The color of the photo, in general, is dark and gloomy, but the little bits of rust on it bring out a nice pop of oranges and browns.

Blue Wall and Doves

Each of Jay's photographs are so different from one another. This photo is so simple. The colors are contrasting which causes the colors to pop out more at the viewers. The brush strokes on the wall from the paint creates a nice texture too.
