As we all know, at approximately 3 p.m. yesterday, twin bombs exploded in Boston near the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon. The news has reported that three people died due to the explosion, and over one hundred people had to seek medical attention. Quite a few of the injured had to have limbs amputated as well.
Although this was such a tragic event, the media covered it well. As a former student journalist, I'm impressed by how quickly the media was able to keep the nation up to date with what was happening in Boston. Many of the photos and videos posted by photojournalists are very heartbreaking, including these three photos below.

While many photojournalists captured the emotion of the explosion by photographing its victims, Spencer Platt took a different approach. I think this photo makes just as much of an impact as the ones filled with blood do because it shows how many people were unable to finish the race due to the explosion.

This photo above shows the immediate reaction to the explosion. In the background, you can see the smoke from the blast, and then you can see how people were reacting to the chaos. I think David Ryan did a good job composing this photo because he obviously had to think on his feet because this happened so fast. I also think it's important to note that the American flag is a part of this photo because it represents so much about our country.

This was one of the more publicized photos from the Boston Marathon explosion. Unlike the photo above, it shows an up close view of what was happening actually down at the finish line. In the background, you can see the crowd panicking. But in the foreground, you can see that even the police were panicking too.
It's sad to think that these tragic events are happening to our country, but the way we react to these tragic events shows how strong our country truly is.
